STAAR PREPARATION PROGRAM

 

*Retired tests rather than independently generated tests

*Small amount of daily work at home to improve retention

CLASSES

​

SAT/ACT CLASS:  This SAT/ACT class takes place every Saturday and Sunday. Students will take a practice test on Saturdays at 9:00AM. On Sundays from 1:00PM to 5:00PM students will go over the test to see where they could have made mistakes, and learn basic strategies for master the SAT or the ACT. Please call in advance to schedule your session.

 

Algebra I Prep Class:  This 3 week class is designed to help your child get ahead for Algebra I or review Algebra I prior to taking Algebra II. This class will be 3 days per week for 2 hours each session. We must have a minimum of 3 students.

 

Geometry Prep Class:  This 3 week class is designed to help your child get ahead for Geometry or review Geometry to strengthen his or her skills. This class will be 3 days per week for 2 hours each session. We must have a minimum of 3 students.

 

Express Yourself:  This 3 week class is designed to help students in different reading levels understand literature that covers a variety of genres. The elementary class (Grades 3-5) will be twice a week for an hour and a half each day. The middle school class (Grades 6-8) will be twice a week for 2 hours each day. The high school class (Grades 9-12) will be twice a week for 2 hours each day. Students will be required to pass a comprehension test to ensure he or she is placed in the correct class.  We must have a minimum of 4 students.

Financial Peace for Teens:  This 6 week class teaches your teen about making reliable personal financial decisions, choosing careers and evaluating personal income potential, budgeting money, investing and saving money, and managing credit, debt, and loans. This class will meet once per week for 2 hours each day.  We must have a minimum of 4 students.

 

High School SUCCESS Class:  This 4 week course is designed for 9-12th graders to help them better prepare for high school, AP classes, and college work. Students will be asked to complete a small amount of work outside of classroom time, but most will be covered in class.  The topics covered include goal setting, learning styles, time management, memory strategies, note-taking, test taking strategies, and writing better for the future. This class will meet 2 days each week for an hour and a half each day.  We must have a minimum of 3 students.

 

Writing for the SAT/ACT:  This 4 week course will discuss the attributes necessary to develop a short, five paragraph essay as is required for most standardized tests and is continued to be used in early college compositions.  Topics covered will include: subject organization, brainstorming for the undisclosed topic, staying on subject, transitional sentence, using quotations and resources to embellish the writing, and grammar and spelling issues.  This class will meet once a week for an hour and a half.  We must have a minimum of 3 students.

 

SAT/PSAT/ACT Tutoring:  The best way to learn and retain information is with regular practice. Set a regular schedule for study with us. We tutor one-on-one for these tests, so each student gets the maximum benefit of our study materials and experience. We purchase specially developed curriculum from CollegeBoard that you can’t just buy at any bookstore. We offer a discounted package of 8 hours private tutoring, prep materials, and 3 full length practice tests for $599. Or, if you prefer, we will work with your student out of your chosen materials at our usual hourly rate and scheduled at your convenience. The key to studying for these tests is discipline and we can help you create that for you.

 

Game Creation Camp:  In this camp, your child will learn how to create their own video game. NO PROGRAMMING KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED. We show you everything from concept art creation to level design and scripting. Your child will come up with their own game concept, design the characters, and script new, exciting levels.  This camp will meet for 5 consecutive days for 3 hours each day.  A minimum of 5 students is required.

 

Lego Creation Camp:  In this creation camp, your child will expand their creativity by building a variety of Lego creations. Each day will have a new theme, and students will be able to take home their favorite creation at the end of the week. This camp will meet for 5 consecutive days for an hour and a half each day.  SNACKS PROVIDED.  A minimum of 5 students is required.
